Nutrition for Learning began in 2001 thanks to the dedication and caring of six Sundre women.
The women, many of them senior citizens and members of the Royal Purple, began fundraising through various activities: casinos, garage sales and golf tournaments. Greenwood Neighbourhood Place helped them achieve non-profit status so the group could get grants to help with the enormous costs.
Soon local businesses and groups became involved. Nothing stopped them. They borrowed (Government approved) kitchens to prepare the food. The women drove through all sorts of bad weather, even blizzards to make the snacks and bring them to the school.
When Sundre began construction on a new school in 2005, the women asked to be included in the planning. They wanted a commercial kitchen and got it!
